Mary Watt [MacKinnon]
June 1932 – October 2025
Sponsor: VGH School of Nursing Alumnae Association
Mary was a proud member of the Vancouver General Hospital School of Nursing, Class of September 1954. Following graduation and marriage to Dr. John Watt, she helped raise 6 children and manage a farm and livestock in Langley.
A woman of endless curiosity and quiet accomplishment, Mary published the BC Simmental News for 20 years and was a member of the docent corps at the Langley Centennial Museum for more than 25 years.
Mary was an active member of the VGH School of Nursing Alumnae Association Archives Committee. She was the lead committee member that resulted in the Archival holdings being added to the Alumnae Association website. In addition, she was the Editor of the annual VGH Nursing Alumnae Association Newsletter for 28 years and received an award from the BC Historical Federation for the Newsletter.
Mary believed in aging well, connecting with others and making space for joy and wonder. She was small in stature but she had a big reflection and the ripples of her influence and care extended far beyond her reach.
