Honouring Lynette Best, BScN, MSN, CHE

Lynette Best is a retired health care executive, whose career spanned nearly 50 years. She is a graduate of the Winnipeg General Hospital of Nursing and has a BSN (1972) and MSN (1982) from the UBC School of Nursing.
The course of her professional career drew her into increasingly prominent nursing and professional practice leadership roles across various B.C. institutions culminating with positions of Vice President, Patient Services at Lions Gate Hospital and the Chief of Professional Practice and Nursing at Providence Health Care. After retirement in 2007, she and a colleague had a small health consulting practice for 10 years, providing health management and operational leadership strategies to various organizations.
Throughout her career she has served provincially and nationally on a number of professional and health care related Boards and Advisory Committees including Providence Health Care, BCIT and UBC Schools of Nursing , British Columbia Registered Nurses Foundation, Registered Nurses of British Columbia (RNABC) (CRNBC) , Association of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (ARNBC) , Academy of Chief Executive Nurses , and the Canadian Nurses Association .
Lynette has been a passionate advocate of nursing and active nursing engagement in such processes as the culture of care delivery, safety and quality assurance. She developed systems to ensure the involvement of nurses in decision making about their practice,to work to their full scope and to be innovative in their practice. The focus of her career has been making it possible for those who work with her to provide the best care for their clients
