Florence Nightingale is renowned as one of the pioneers of modern nursing. This London-based Museum houses artifacts owned or used by Florence Nightingale, material connected with the Crimean war, as well as military, hospital and nursing memorabilia. A short biographical sketch of Nightingale's life and works is found on this website.
The Collected Works of Florence Nightingale A work in progress: all the available surviving writing of Florence Nightingale will be published in the Collected Works of Florence Nightingale, by Dr. Lynne MacDonald, University of Guelph, Ontario. This website contains information about the ongoing project, an extensive bibliography, and links to digital collections of Nightingale's letters.
Margaret M. Allemang Society for the History of Nursing This Ontario organization promotes the study of the history of nursing in Canada. The majority of the Society's archival holdings are housed in the University of Toronto Archives. Many items relate to military nursing in World War I and II and include oral histories (tapes and manuscripts), scrapbooks, photos, letters, uniforms and medals. >
Canadian Nursing History Collection The Canadian Nursing History Collection (online) is a rich repository of artifacts and documents held by the Canadian Museum of Civilization (Gatineau, PQ) and the Canadian War Museum (Ottawa). This national collection of nursing artifacts is the most significant of its kind and includes nursing uniforms, school pins, equipment, educational materials, paintings, war medals and nursing organization memorabilia. The site also includes a select bibliography on nursing in Canada.
Alumnae Association of the Royal Jubilee Hospital School of Nursing This brand new website was designed to celebrate the proud past of the Royal Jubilee Hospital School of Nursing in Victoria. Nursing History Digitization Project: Nursing Education in Nova Scotia This site explores the history of nursing education in Nova Scotia from 1890 to the late 20th century. Narrative text, photographs and documents from twenty nursing schools in Nova Scotia are found on this interesting site.
An interesting collection of infant feeding devices is located in the Woodward Biomedical Library at the University of British Columbia and is available for viewing on this site. Alice Wright, a BC nurse and long-time executive director and registrar at RNABC, was a major donor. The BC History of Nursing Society archives holds the Alice Wright fonds.

BC History of Nursing Virtual Book and Games This delightful interactive exhibit of costumed dolls, sometimes called portrait dolls, pays tribute to the nurses and events that shaped the history of nursing in BC. Be sure to play the games to test your knowledge. Developed by students at Vancouver Island University for a history course titled Issues in the Social History of Nursing.
Alumnae Association of the Royal Inland Hospital School of Nursing The School of Nursing, located in Kamloops BC, started in 1904 and closed its doors 70 years later. This site is sponsored by the loyal alumnae and celebrates the history of the school. It features many historic photos as well as a listing of the more than 900 graduates.
